Private, on-device matching
Face recognition check-in for events
What is face recognition check-in?
Face recognition check-in lets a pre-registered attendee enter by looking at a camera at the registration desk instead of showing a pass. Qasber matches faces in the browser using mathematical face embeddings, so raw images never leave the device, and a match takes under a second for VIPs, speakers, staff and repeat attendees.
How does face recognition check-in work?
- EnrollThe attendee registers their face with the browser camera before arrival.
- MatchAt the desk, the camera compares the live face with enrolled embeddings on the device.
- Check inOnly the check-in status goes to the organizer dashboard; the badge can print immediately.
Does face data leave the attendee's device?
No. Qasber's recommended production architecture keeps face matching client-side through browser-based models. Raw images and biometric signatures are never transmitted to or stored on remote servers, which reduces biometric risk for corporate event teams.
| Step | Data movement | Used for |
|---|---|---|
| Enroll | Browser camera only | Before arrival |
| Match | Client-side comparison | Desk check-in |
| Dashboard update | Check-in status only | Organizer reporting |
When should an event use face check-in?
- Leadership meets and VIP lanes that need hands-free entry
- Speaker and staff entrances
- Repeat attendees at multi-day conferences
- Premium arrivals alongside a standard QR lane
Most events use QR check-in for everyone and add face check-in for priority flows. If camera access is denied, the attendee simply uses their QR pass.
Face recognition check-in FAQ
Does face check-in replace QR check-in?
No. Most events use QR for all attendees and face check-in for priority flows such as VIPs and speakers. Both run at the same desk.
What happens if camera access is denied?
The attendee checks in with their QR pass instead, so nobody is held up at the desk.
Is face matching done on a server?
No. The recommended flow matches faces client-side in the browser, so face data does not leave the device and only the check-in status is shared.
